it’s not a cultural exchange if nothing is being exchanged. there’s nothing given, only taken. do you see the problem with that terminology?
i think, if you wear something like dreads with respect and reverence, then fine by me, personally. i only get offended when it’s treated as a novelty.
and to be fair, Rastafarianism is a religion. i don’t like that it’s automatically thrown in with BLACK CULTURE because not all black people who wear dreads practice it. but, through time, it has been assimilated by black people who wear it and face oppression and stereotypes. but there are some Rastafarians who actually have issues with BLACK people who AREN’T practicing rastafarians, saying that THEY are culturally appropriating.
so, do you see how this sort of goes? there’s levels to this, and i’m not being funny when i say that.
